Kim Poirier was born to actress, model and 1976 Miss Toronto, Carol Laquerre. Poirier grew up in Toronto as a child model appearing in several television commercials. Kim Poirier got trained in on-camera acting by David Rottenberg and Bruce Clayton, and further learnt Meisner Technique in acting from John Riven. She was trained in voice work by Rae Ellen Bodie and Francois Grise; and learnt Ballet, Tap, Jazz and dance from Jazz Be Nimble; singing and voice work from Elaine Overholt. She also attended workshops and seminars on acting.
A great athlete, Kim Poirier indulged in gymnastics, karate, athletics, track & field, water and snow skiing. She keeps herself physically fit by practicing yoga, meditation and jogging. She organized a workshop in 2004 on integrating yoga with that of acting. In 2006, she has been chosen as the Sadhana Commissioner at 'The Institute of Yoga Therapy', where she organized yoga classes, activities and special events. Kim Poirier has acquired expertise in dialects speaking French in Canadian and European dialect; and English in Stoneland, Cockney, Southern U.S. and Irish dialects.
